Internship

I am interning as a behavior technician at Advanced Behavioral Health in Fountain Valley, California. Advanced Behavioral Health utilizes applied behavioral analysis (ABA) therapy on children and young adults who suffer from behavioral disorders including, but not limited to, autism. As a behavior technician I implement behavioral therapy & skill acquisition treatment plans designed by my supervisors. I work one on one with each patient to overcome maladaptive behaviors. Having the opportunity to work one on one with clients has allowed me to strongly develop my patient interaction skills and learn to tweak my work to best adapt to the individual I am working with. Throughout sessions, I assess and document the clients behavioral status and any progress. Actively tracking data throughout sessions has given me great room to develop my data tracking and analysis skills for the field. I am able to reflect back on clients past data and analyze our efficiency in combating maladaptive behaviors. In light of the COVID-19 epidemic, my role now encompasses being an advocate for COVID-19 precautions in the workplace. I conduct daily COVID-19 health wellness screenings with the families at the start of each session. I was given the opportunity to design my own COVID-19 safety precautions handout to show clients and the families. This handout gives me an opportunity to implement health education and advocacy for COVID-19 precautions in my role as a behavior technician. I am unable to share my direct work due to patient confidentiality, but I have linked below a training sample of the data I would typically take during sessions.
